The project:

Renovation of an old house

Space:

160 sq.m.

Tenants:

Planning and design:

Odelia Barzilai

How does it feel to return to live in the childhood home? A couple in their 40s, with two sons and a dog - happy to find that the pleasant memories are preserved, despite the twist The house, located in the center of the country about 40 years ago and underwent only a small renovation two decades ago, the designer, Odelia Barzilai, really liked the architectural look, and the potential, in the form of a New York loft, will be revealed to her immediately. Asked to design it in a country style, she immediately laid out her vision, regarding a combination of materials and colors with full boldness, and without fear, to create an exciting, inclusive and essentially warm home.

New Middle East: The most beautiful house in Kafr Qassem

All the walls and partitions that were in the house were broken and completely cleaned for an open and airy look (Photo: PR, Einat Dekel)

Barzilai suggested to the second generation of homeowners to embark on a creative and challenging adventure, to create different and surprising spaces than usual.

And they were persuaded and set out with her.

And so redesigned his two-story house to a gallery floor.

Redesigned the location of the kitchen, the staircase, added guest services on the lower floor and generally created a more correct flow to the house.

The challenges were many: a constructive pillar in the living room, a low ceiling in the bedroom and bathroom of the parents downstairs, a ceiling with a slope in the public space, where the high part rises to a height of 6 meters, and the low part to a height of 2.4 meters, and more.

Barzilai "cleaned" and broke all the walls and partitions, except for three main walls.

The roof, which was old, underwent a structural renovation, to become safer.

It was strengthened and raised with the help of a reinforcing beam, which made it possible to lower the constructive pillar in the living room.

The gallery floor, which was raised thanks to the roof-strengthening operation, became more practical and incorporated a play area for the children.

The materials the designer used to create a warm and inviting home, with an urban loft atmosphere, were concrete, glass, iron and wood.

1.2-meter porcelain granite tiles were chosen for the floor covering, in a way that made the whole look clean and one that radiated uniformity and harmony.

The location of the front door changed, and the door key became a glass wall that was "stretched" from the ground floor to the roof.

A great way to let in natural light and a spectacular view into the house.

Hinged windows were added to the entrance floor, to let in more light and good air into the space.

A storage closet for coats, shoes and other accessories that you bring into the house is integrated next to the front door.

The dining area is located in the lower part of the public space.

The dining table is made of steel beams with corrosion marks and the top surface is made of corrugated tin and topped with glass cladding.

Six dining chairs made of braided bamboo, combining natural hue and black.

And on the wall was installed a light fixture made of iron pipes combined with street lamps.

On the wall hung a work of art from terrorists, the fruit of the designer's work, and a decorative metal shelf with green flower pots on it.

Next to the dining area, instead of the patio, guest toilets were built.

The kitchen changed location and moved in close proximity to the dining area.

It is painted in a dark and dramatic shade of gray, similar to the walls of the dining area.

The large electrical accessories, such as the oven and refrigerator, were integrated within the line of tall storage cabinets.

To create a kind of relief from the visual clutter, the designer shapes the look with the help of cabinets with open shelves, which are covered with wood.

Inside the wide island, covered with porcelain granite, the stove and sink were combined, and painted in the same shade, to create a stylistic and design uniformity.

The island is also used for storage and display, and combines wood and glass.

Next to it are rich brown-chocolate leather bar stools, for sitting together.

In front of the kitchen, the living room is in a straight line, and is located between two glass walls.

One is the wall that replaced the original front door, while the other wall was placed and begins in the kitchen.

The third wall, formerly covered with bricks, is re-covered with huge slabs of rust-like porcelain granite, measuring 3 meters, for a dramatic and daring effect.

On the wall hung an impressive work of art, corresponding with the brown leather sofa.

Braided rattan armchairs next to the sofa provide additional seating, without visually burdening the space.

The living room table is made of an iron frame and a top surface made up of wooden beams.

Two of its legs were replaced with industrial-looking wheels.

Ammunition crates and an old fan, which enrich the look of the space, also contribute to the industrial look.

The TV is mounted on a pole, and can be rotated for viewing both from the living space and from the kitchen, dining area and even the garden.

The elevated urban look in the common space is complemented by an air conditioning duct that has been left exposed, and passes over the kitchen and living room.

Iron and mesh metal construction.

While the original children's room is located downstairs and the master suite upstairs, it turned out that the exchange of seats would do everyone good.

The master suite, which was modest in size, looks wider than its size thanks to the separation of a glass wall between the bedroom and the bathroom.

The bathroom walls were covered with tiles and decorative plaster, for a rich look.

A shower with a hidden drainage channel, a large sink and a cabinet made of iron combined with wood - add richness and luxury through the materials and shades.

The redesigned and redesigned staircase presents a ventilated and clean look thanks to an iron construction combined with mesh metal.

Upstairs is a space used for a productive work area, with a desk and a library built of plumbing pipes and wooden shelves.

Between the two parts of the library is a door made of an OSB plate fixed in an iron frame.

This leads to the children's kingdom, where there is a play area with popsicles that are comfortable for playing, at the entrance.

Instead of traditional storage shelves, the designer chose simple boxes from IKEA that the boys painted, and installed them with ropes.

Access to the gallery floor, above the play area, is made possible thanks to the ladder, which has bedrooms and a bathroom with a shower.
