If you will, Internet users have only done what the CDU Baden-Württemberg wanted to achieve with its election campaign: "We focus on pure text messages," said the CDU election posters on Friday with top candidate Susanne Eisenmann.
The CDU has now received this focus - albeit somewhat differently than planned.
Because the Internet community quickly realized that two of Eisenmann's election posters could also be misunderstood.
A poster reads in capital letters: »Vote CDU because we hunt criminals of today with the equipment of tomorrow«.
Twitter users turned this into "We criminals of today" - on the grounds that motorists often only read the first line when driving past.
The second motif with the question »Don't we all want to be protected?«, Flanked by a photo of Eisenmann, was also mockingly commented on.
The communication expert Frank Brettschneider from the University of Hohenheim then recommended that the CDU should not stick the posters because of »technical errors«.
In Baden-Württemberg, a new state parliament will be elected in six weeks.
Eisenmann challenges the Green Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann.
The Southwest CDU wants to stick to the posters.
"We see calmly that a message on posters on the Internet is deliberately misunderstood," said Eisenmann, according to a statement on Sunday.
We are pleased that the motifs presented are »spoken and intensively discussed«.
Drivers, cyclists and pedestrians are likely to encounter the messages across the country very soon.
Despite the digitization in the corona pandemic, the party wants to put up 1,500 large posters - more than ever before.
