Mallorca is one of the most popular holiday destinations for Germans.

But when will trips to the island be possible again despite the corona pandemic?

While the Corona incidence on Mallorca * has been decreasing for a few days, the Balearic Tourism Minister Iago Negueruela is doing everything possible to ensure that trips to the island will soon be possible again in 2021.

To this end, he is said to have met with the responsible Secretary General of the state government, Fernando Valdés, last week.

The aim is to create safer travel corridors so that tourism in the Balearic Islands can soon be stimulated again.

Valdés promised to take care of putting in place a roadmap for a slow return to tourism with maximum health safety.

As the

Mallorca Zeitung

reports, the travel corridors should begin as soon as the corona incidence allows.

According to Valdés, this

should

be the case

as early as spring if possible

.

Reyes Maroto, the Spanish tourism minister, assumes that by then

30 to 40 percent of the population of Spain will be vaccinated

so that tourism could be stimulated again.

In January, the Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez caused an outcry in the travel industry when he said that tourists might not be allowed again until the end of the summer, as immunization of around 70 percent of the population would then be achieved.

On Thursday (January 28), the total incidence of the Balearic Islands was

648.8 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the previous 14 days

, as the

Mallorca Zeitung

writes, citing the government's Corona spokesman, Javier Arranz.

The problem child of the Balearic Islands is currently Ibiza, where there is an incidence of 2,200 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

In Mallorca, on the other hand, around ten percent of the cases are the British virus mutation.

Due to the current deliveries of vaccination doses, according to the Balearic Health Minister Patricia Gómez, 60,000 of the most sensitive risk groups can be vaccinated by the end of March.

From March onwards, the vaccinations should be tightened again, so that all residents of the Balearic Islands could be vaccinated by summer.
