Among party activists there is a belief that the primaries for the list will advance them another step on the path to becoming the leading and influential force in the center-left bloc.

Chairman Michaeli prefers to concentrate on the primaries out of a desire to formulate a diverse and high-quality list of women and men, which she will present as a "winning team."

Among the dozens of candidates are former Knesset members Amar Bar-Lev, Nachman Shai and MK Ram Shefa, who moved from a white brush to the Labor Party. Other prominent names are: journalist Haim Har Zahav, former presenter and lawyer Efrat Reitan, educator and Holocaust researcher Aryeh Barnea, And Adv. Smadar Dekel Naim, who has been active in the issue of civil marriage.

Voting in the primaries will be digital and the results are expected in the evening.

The Labor Party stated that since Michaeli was elected chairman, 8,000 new men and women have been added and there are a total of 45,093 men and women who are eligible to vote in the primaries for the list.

After selecting the list, Michaeli will be free to try and carry out a political unification by the time the lists are submitted, with the aim of not losing votes in the center-left bloc.

At the same time, she clarified that she would not connect to Bnei Gantz and blue and white.

"The Labor Party is starting anew," said Chairman Michaeli, adding: "I am proud to lead the only democratic party in Israel that is holding internal elections.

I therefore call on you to continue to join the Labor Party and take part in its return to the center of the stage.

Come home. "

Eran Hermoni, Labor secretary general, said ahead of the primaries: "60 candidates and more than 45,000 eligible voters are conclusive evidence of the recovery and growth trend the Labor Party is experiencing, proving that there is no room for personal and one-time lists, which are falling apart these days.

"Their heads will do well if they retire from the race."

Gil Beilin, who lost to Michaeli in the Labor election: "This is a critical day for Labor voters and supporters. The race is heating up and the list of candidates is dense. There is no doubt that a new generation of leaders is the key to building the party from ruins and fulfilling the dream to continue."

Emily Moati, one of the candidates for a high place on the list: "The day of the primaries is an optimistic day for the party, the camp and the State of Israel. Today the opening ten of the party will be determined. ".

Rabbi Gilad Karib, director general of the Reform Movement, who is also a candidate for the primaries:

A clear voice, which stands against trends of extremism, nationalism and sectoral segregation. "
