FDA Discusses New Alzheimer's Drug 0:40

Tony Bennett's family revealed Monday that the 94-year-old singer was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2016. Bennett's wife and son made the announcement in the February / March issue of AARP magazine.
In a lengthy report, Tony's team of neurologists share how his singing sessions twice a week positively stimulate his brain, despite his progressive Alzheimer's disease.

Alzheimer's disease is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and is the only leading cause of death without effective treatment or cure.
More than five million Americans are currently living with Alzheimer's in the United States, according to the Alzheimer's Association.

Encouraged by his team of neurologists, Bennett has continued to sing and play music at home to help stimulate his brain in positive ways.
He also follows a special diet and exercises regularly with a trainer.
Bennett's wife, Susan, and their eldest son, Danny, also spoke to the magazine and described how Bennett could perform on stage even when confused.
“Both Susan and Danny said that behind the scenes, Tony could seem completely puzzled about where he was.
But the moment he heard the announcer's voice saying, "Ladies and gentlemen, Tony Bennett!"
she put herself into acting mode, became the center of attention, smiling and acknowledging the applause of the audience, ”the piece describes.
