Vaccination Center Peißenberg: Three vaccines, many options, one imponderability

According to Christian Achmüller, head of the vaccination center in Peißenberg, around 1000 vaccination doses for the corona vaccinations will be delivered to the Weilheim-Schongau district this week.

"However, almost half of it is needed for second vaccinations," says Achmüller.

The mobile vaccination teams, despite the week-long vaccine shortage, have meanwhile reached the point where "this week everyone in the old people's homes who wanted it received at least the first vaccination," said Achmüller.

In the next step, further care facilities and systems for assisted senior living are to come.

At least 16 vaccinations could also take place in the vaccination center this week.

The new, electronic booking system was used for the first time.

"We had sent 30 invitations by e-mail - 16 clicked immediately and made an appointment online," says Achmüller.

The other 14 invitees should "please also make an appointment in the coming week - unfortunately we cannot send another e-mail as a reminder".

After appointment cancellation: backlog of two weeks ago made up

At least the backlog from two weeks ago, when numerous appointments had been made and then had to be canceled at short notice because the promised vaccine deliveries did not arrive, has now been made up, the head of the vaccination center continues.

Everyone who was canceled an appointment at the time would still have received their first vaccination.

With the approval of the Astra-Zeneca vaccine, there are now three different vaccines that can be used in the district.

That could relax the situation, said Achmüller.

However, there are still many question marks in the room.

Because not every vaccine is suitable for every patient and every application.

So far, the Biontech serum has mainly been used in the district.

But that could change soon.

The Biontech vaccine must be stored at minus 80 degrees until use.

There are six vaccination doses in each vial.

The Moderna vaccine only has to be stored at minus 22 degrees. Once the bottle, which contains ten doses, has been thawed, it can no longer be transported.

Astra-Zeneca's new vaccine can be stored and transported normally at refrigerator temperatures, but is only intended to be used on people under 65 years of age.

In the future, this will require a high degree of precise planning from the Johanniter vaccination teams.

“It would be conceivable that we could supply the mobile vaccination teams that supply senior citizens' facilities with the Biontech vaccine.

In the vaccination center, we would then switch to the fact that only the Moderna vaccine is vaccinated as far as possible.

And with the Astra-Zeneca-preparation we could vaccinate the employees of the whole doctor's surgeries in the district - they are usually younger than 65 and then not all have to come to the vaccination center because the Astra-Zeneca-vaccine can be easily transported ”, so Achmüller.

Vaccination Center Manager: It will certainly continue to be a question of patience

But he, too, has learned in recent weeks that the best planning is not worth much if you don't know when and how much of which vaccine will be delivered.

“In the future it will certainly continue to be a question of patience.

We'll do everything we can.

But we can't do anything without a vaccine, ”he said.

Achmüller also emphasized once again that there was no choice as to which preparation one would like to be vaccinated with: "What is used is what is suitable and available."
