Donald Trump's son-in-law and former White House advisor, Jared Kushner, has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize along with his former deputy Avi Berkowitz.
The proposal was submitted on Sunday by Trump's attorney Alan Dershowitz.
Kushner and Berkowitz have been proposed for their role in negotiating four normalization agreements between Israel and several Arab states that were signed last year.
Nobel Prize nominations may only be submitted by certain people.
Attorney Dershowitz was qualified as a professor emeritus at Harvard Law School.
Dershowitz defended Donald Trump in his first impeachment proceedings last year.
Just in time for Trump's resignation on January 20, he said at the second attempt that the Senate should drop the proceedings initiated after the storm on the Capitol, because Trump is no longer president.
In his letter to the Nobel Prize Committee, Dershowitz hinted that he was well aware of the controversy surrounding a nomination by Kushner.
"The Nobel Peace Prize is not awarded for popularity," he wrote.
"Nor is it an assessment of what the international community thinks of those who have helped achieve peace."
Kushner and Berkowitz are considered key figures in the agreements between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Sudan and Morocco.
Although the deals were viewed internationally as a diplomatic rapprochement between countries, they are also controversial.
Above all, the agreement with Morocco was received critically, as the US recognized Morocco's annexation from Western Sahara as a concession to Morocco.
Kushner said in a statement that he was honored by the nomination.
The Nobel Peace Prize will be awarded in October.
Kushner should not have particularly great prospects for the price.
More than 300 people were nominated last year.
This year, in addition to Kushner, Greta Thunberg and Alexej Nawalny are among them.
