“Everyone is unhappy”: Freising's school principals see regression and health risks in alternating lessons

Graduates at Freising grammar schools have been taking alternating classes since Monday.

Nobody is really satisfied with that.

Freising

- The graduates of the Freising grammar schools have returned to the schools.

Most of the school family is anything but satisfied with the solution.

As reported, since Monday there is no longer pure distance lessons for the graduating classes, but alternating lessons.

While half of the graduates stay in homeschooling, the other half, between 30 and 40 students per grammar school, are back in the classrooms.

"Everyone is unhappy with this solution because nobody sees the point behind it," emphasizes Andrea Bliese, director of the

Freising Camerloher grammar school

.

"In terms of health, the solution is questionable"

In terms of school, alternating lessons are a step backwards from distance learning because it is more difficult to teach two groups at the same time.

“And in terms of health, the solution is questionable anyway.” There is “very, very great concern” among the teachers, says Bliese.

"And our 18-year-old pupils are wondering why they are only allowed to meet one person privately when they share the schoolyard with over 30 people." Mixing up of pupils cannot be prevented anyway.

“We do have regular core groups in German, math and the foreign languages,” explains the headmistress.

In all other subjects, depending on the individual timetable, there would be changing occupations.

The need for protection of teachers and students has increased

In the

Dom-Gymnasium

,

too

, the return to alternating classes was not met with great joy.

“Nobody would have found it particularly bad if we had stayed in distance lessons,” says Manfred Röder, director of the Dom-Gymnasium.

"We just made friends with it, willy-nilly."

The choice of masks shows that teachers and students need more protection in the new year.

"According to the hygiene plan, a simple mouth and nose protection would be sufficient," said the headmaster.

“Since the time before Christmas, however, the proportion of FFP2 masks has increased significantly.” The crux here: According to recommendations, the FFP2 masks should only be kept on for 75 minutes at a time.

Then there should be a break in wearing.

“However, we sometimes have 90-minute lessons,” emphasizes Bliese.

"And how should we implement such a break in the classrooms?"

At the Josef-Hofmiller-Gymnasium there are weekly blocks

Susanne Räde, head of the

Josef-Hofmiller-Gymnasium in Freising

, has already

come to terms

with the new regulation.

"But we would have been happy if we had received information on how the alternate lessons were organized earlier," she said, referring to the fact that the corresponding letter from the Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs did not reach the grammar schools until the end of last week.

“But we were prepared for it.” In contrast to the other Freising grammar schools, where the students commute back and forth between homeschooling and classrooms on a daily basis, the JoHo opted for weekly blocks.

That was the majority wish of teachers and parents.

"Most teachers offer a live stream for the students who are at home."

And what happens after February 14th, the day on which the lockdown is currently limited?

"That depends on the infection," says Röder.

"But I cannot imagine that all students will then be sent to face-to-face classes again."

It's about fulfilling your lifelong dream.

Two students from Freising have been working hard for a career in the theater for years.

But then Corona stops abruptly.
