Ankara-SANA condemned the former economy minister in the Turkish regime and leader of the opposition Democracy and Progress Party, Ali Bab

Ankara - SANA

The former Minister of Economy in the Turkish regime and the leader of the opposition Democratic and Progress Party, Ali Babacan, condemned today the use of violence by the Turkish regime’s authorities during the protests in Istanbul against the appointment of the regime’s president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, a close associate of him as the new rector of one of the largest universities in the country.

The Turkish newspaper, Al-Zaman, quoted Babacan as saying in a statement today that "the internal policies created by the AKP government through polarization and conflict have caused great damage in the country."

He stressed that the president of the Turkish regime seeks to “fabricate problems and hostilities between groups of people, which would push things to a very dangerous direction,” noting that the students “protested based on their right that the constitution guaranteed them.”

According to tradition, academics choose the university’s president who controls most of the university’s life from professors, and thus Erdogan deviated from this rule by appointing the leader in the Justice and Development Party Melih Polo.

Babacan confirmed at the beginning of last month that the Turkish people of all sorts are dissatisfied with Erdogan's policies and his provocative statements. Kemal Kilicdaroglu, head of the opposition Republican People's Party, also called on Erdogan to apologize for his continuous insults to the Turkish people of all sorts.

Under the decree, Erdogan appointed Melih Polo, who holds a PhD in Business Administration, as president of the Bosphorus University, as he wants through his men complete control of the university campus in which freedom of expression disappears and terror spreads among students and faculty.
