Opponent Alexey Navalny could face 3 to 5 years in prison.
The Russian authorities reproach Navalny for not having appeared to appear as prescribed by the conditions of his conditional release in 2019. The opponent says that he could not appear because he was in a coma.
A Kremlin spokesman told CNN that Russian President Vladimir Putin is not following the hearing.
Putin apparently fears the extent of Navalny's popularity.
