Pöcking - The novel corona virus and the associated disease Covid-19 are a scourge for the world's population.

But there are also aspects in times of the pandemic that give rise to praise and applause.

This is what happened at the most recent meeting of the Pöckinger municipal council.

The managing director in the town hall of the Seegemeinde, Sven Neumann, presented the elected citizens' representatives the annual report of the community library for 2020. According to this, 42 percent fewer visitors came to the facility in the old rectory than in the previous year - that is the restrictions in the context of the corona crisis as well owed to the resulting behavior of the population.

But: The number of loans only fell by 2.5 percent in the first Corona year.

And this fact is solely due to the work of the library team, Neumann left no doubt about that.

Community manager praises "innovative services"

The managing director reported that the staff of the Pöckinger library had given a lot of thought to satisfying the needs of their audience.

The keyword is delivery service.

Anyone who expressed their wish to read by phone was served by the library staff right up to their front door.

And in the further course of the pandemic, according to the motto "Click & Collect", the team had the desired literature ready for collection after registration.

The outstanding number of the statistics is the following: In 2020 the number of loans to children and young people increased by 15.6 percent. “The library staff deserve all of our thanks for their innovative achievements,” said Neumann, thus sparking the first storm of applause in the plenum Municipal council.

The second followed immediately: Neumann also praised the staff of the local youth club.

When in the first lockdown the focus was more on distance regulations than the not yet available mouth and nose masks, the team moved its offers to the youth outside.

With the FFP2 mask requirement, a get-together in the youth club is now also possible, said Neumann.
