The crucial cabinet meeting on extending or stopping the closure before the weekend will take place today (Wednesday), with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Health Minister Yuli Edelstein and the Ministry of Health requesting an extension until Sunday.

According to them, extending the quarantine for another three days will add another 200,000 people to the circle of vaccinators, of whom 125,000 are over the age of 50. This, while 97% of mortality is from the age of 50 and up.

On the other hand, in blue and white, Netanyahu and the Ministry of Health will press for a partial and graded opening of the economy, explaining that the closure does not work and that a different strategy is needed.

According to the data, after a month of tightened closure the coefficient of adhesion (R) decreased, however from last weekend it returned to rise.

The infection coefficient is currently 0.97 in all sectors.

In the general sector it has already reached 1.02, in the ultra-Orthodox sector at 0.87 and in the Arab sector at 0.95.

It is likely that in a short time we will again see large numbers of verified.

On the other hand, the serious illness, the new hospitalized and the mortality - are on a declining trend.

If last week there were 284 new hospitalizations and 80 critically ill patients, then this week there were 71. The Ministry of Health attributes this to the expanding vaccination campaign, which reduces the serious morbidity among at-risk populations.

Office officials admit that the downward trend is rather slow, fearing that the British or South African mutation will once again change trends and the rate of morbidity.

Although the coefficient of infection is expected to rise and cause an increase in morbidity, the hope is that we will see a decrease in severe morbidity and mortality as early as next week.

According to a survey by the United Health Insurance Fund, out of 140,000 vaccinated people who have completed their vaccination process and are one week after the second dose, only 23 insured, which is 0.016%, have contracted corona.

All infected patients experienced the disease mild to moderate, and did not develop a fever above 38 degrees.

The Maccabi Health Fund also conducted the same study and received a similar result.

Only 66 people (0.027%) were infected in Corona out of about 248,000 vaccinated, more than a week after receiving the second vaccine.

Simultaneously with data on those infected among the vaccinated, a test was conducted among a control group of about 900,000 Maccabi members, from a diverse profile, who have not yet been vaccinated against Corona and have not been infected with the virus in the past.

Among this group, about 8,250 active verified patients were found during the test period.

A comparison of the data between the groups shows that those who were not vaccinated were 11 times more likely to be vaccinated than those who were vaccinated, and that at this stage the vaccine's effectiveness in Israel is about 92% after seven days or more.

Maccabi emphasizes that this figure is considered excellent and encouraging, since according to an experiment conducted by Pfizer, only 28 days after the completion of the second dose, the vaccine's effectiveness is 95%.
