They look like real delicacies, but are actually a life-threatening danger: so-called poison bait.

Three such cruel "treats" were reported in the Starnberg district last weekend alone.

County - They look like real delicacies to dogs.

In fact, they are a life-threatening danger: We are talking about so-called poison baits.

People consciously prepare dog baits with razor blades, rat poison or other deadly additives and lay them out.

The cruel goal: The animals should eat the "treats" and die of it.

Three such poison baits were reported in the Starnberg district last weekend alone.

Walkers in Starnberg found poison bait on the meadow behind the castle, as did other hikers near Garatshausen and on the Ilkahöhe.

The Starnberg police are also suspected of poison bait on the Ilkahöhe.

Numerous worried phone calls came to the Starnberg animal shelter.

"We have received a lot of warnings from volunteers, dog trainers, but also from social networks," says employee Laura Balta of the Starnberger Merkur.

Her tip to all dog owners in order to protect their animal as best as possible from the poison bait: “You should always keep your dog on a leash and always keep an eye on it.” A muzzle or an anti-food net is also recommended.

Anyone who finds one of the manipulated baits should take a photo of it immediately and notify the police.

Then it is necessary to remove the bait using a poop bag.

If the dog has already eaten the bait, the nearest veterinary practice must be visited as soon as possible.

Sometimes, however, any help comes too late.

Laura Balta says that a dog at her shelter recently died from poison bait.

The motive for such an act is often incomprehensible.

The Starnberg woman explains it like this: “Many dog owners do not clear away their dogs' feces.

I think that this creates a subliminal hatred of the dogs.

We shouldn't give these people any reason not to like dogs. "

That's what a dog owner says about the incidents

The fact that several poison baits have again been found in the district has led to lively discussions on social networks.

One contribution that caused quite a stir is that of Nicola Beutel.

In her text, the dog owner tries to get to the bottom of the motive for such a cruel act.

Because even if the laying out of poisonous bait is “nothing to excuse” in their opinion, Beutel is still certain that nobody wakes up in the morning and “suddenly comes up with the idea of using poisonous bait just to kill dogs”.

She suspects that most of the perpetrators regularly step into dog poop that has not been cleared away or that they have it on their doorstep and in the garden.

Even dog owners who do not keep their animals on a leash and then only say from a distance of 50 meters that their dog is not doing anything and that you should just keep walking if it jumps at a pedestrian would contribute to the subliminal hatred of the animals .

You yourself have such experiences again and again when you take your dog for a walk on the Herrschinger lake promenade during your lunch break, says Beutel.

“The other day I almost got into twelve huge dog poo, and four free-roaming dogs rushed towards me,” she writes in her Facebook post.

The aim of your letter is by no means to protect those who lay poison bait.

However, she would like to raise awareness of the fact that dog owners can definitely influence the general mood with their behavior.

Bag writes: "I think if every dog owner adheres to the basics of the good dog parlor and the rules, there will be far fewer poison bait reports to share in the future."
