The government in the territory of Hong Kong, has in the last ten days implemented a new and intensive method of combating the corona plague in the city.

Rapid ambushes in which large police forces suddenly surround several buildings or a neighborhood in the city and force at once all residents to pass tests against Corona or pay a $ 645 fine.

Videos circulated on social media show how the police are enforcing the new regulations.

One of the videos shows a large police force raiding a neighborhood at once, encircling it all with marking films, and blocking its exit and entry as part of such a surprise operation.

Following the filming, the city government issued a statement saying that police officers also have the authority to break into the homes of the people and take them to be checked, if they show any resistance.

The new move has caused anxiety among parts of the city’s public and local media have begun issuing guides that teach citizens how to identify preparations for an assault on their buildings.

In the meantime, although the move has received public criticism for its predation, local government promises to continue.

So far in 10,000 surprise tests of this kind only a small number of virus carriers have been found.

The city has so far avoided closures during the corona plague, but has imposed various restrictions on the public on the one hand to stop the contagion but not to harm the city's lively trade.

While the territory is facing the fourth corona wave to hit it, authorities intend to intensify the wave of surprise tests.

The government plans to carry out an isolation and inspection operation every day, with the aim of covering all parts of the city until the Chinese second mayor, which will take place this year on February 12.

According to the British "Guardian", these are two-day closures on every block of buildings during which all residents of the surrounded area have to go down and get a corona examination.

The government can carry out a large amount of such sudden closures as it has increased its testing capability from a level of 10,000 corona tests per day to a level of one hundred thousand.

Currently, the administration focuses on the old and heavily populated areas of the city where there is a densely populated population but also shopping centers that attract a large crowd, which can often get a buyer stuck in the place.

There is controversy among the residents of the territory as to the effectiveness and necessity of the new policy.

In conversations with the residents of the Lam Tim neighborhood, one of the residents claimed: "These ambushes are not necessary and frightening."

However, some residents expressed satisfaction with the knowledge that not a single patient with the virus was found in the sudden closure.

The head of administration in the city, Matthew Chaung, expressed satisfaction with the results of the tests in the neighborhood and said: "This is good news to detect zero infections."

Professor James Trauer, an epidemiologist at the Australian University of Monash, said: "What is discovered during these tests is the patients at the time of the test, but some people have the virus for between three and 14 days and the police do not detect them in such short closures."

"I doubt this method, we tried it in Melbourne in the first outbreak but the virus slipped and continued to spread anyway. It is impossible to beat the map by such closures," Trauer said.
