The city of Unterschleißheim has big plans in 2021, but it too has to plan carefully in view of the Corona crisis.

That's all about this year.

Unterschleißheim

- Financially, the Corona crisis hits Unterschleißheim with full force.

Many companies apply for tax deferrals, but the city's staff and fixed costs continue to run.

The city council carefully applies the brakes.

“We had a lot of plans this year,” says Mayor Christoph Böck (SPD), unfortunately everything is not possible.

There is also pandemic-related additional expenditure.

This poses challenges for the combing department.

Because the construction cost of 70 million for the Michael-Ende-School seems too high in uncertain times, the new building was postponed to 2023, the costs should be reduced to 50 million.

In addition to classrooms, rooms for a music school, NBH, after-school care center and music society are planned.

Construction projects

It is positive that the city treasury is well filled with 70 million.

Some projects are therefore being advanced anyway.

The Caritas after-school care center is currently being added to the Ganghof School.

It should be ready for the new school year in the fall.

Now the timber construction company has announced that the dates have been postponed.

There was a lot of discussion before the municipal elections about the new residential area on the business campus.

This year the planning of the multi-family houses in the so-called garden quarter should become more concrete.

Thanks to the Sobon contract, the city received a third of the property on Alfred-Nobel-Strasse.

Until the affordable rental apartments are ready, the city will invest around 30 million euros in the coming years and another 7.5 million euros for a children's home in the garden district.

BRK house is being rebuilt for 2.8 million

The helpers from the Bavarian Red Cross are proving just how important their services are in the vaccination and test center at the Volksfestplatz.

In the third attempt it should now also work with the BRK house: Offices, group rooms and a vehicle hall will be built on Furtweg.

The city is spending 2.8 million euros on the renovation and new construction this year.

On the fallow Esso property in the best Lohhofer location, older citizens are to find an advice center for senior citizens in a residential and commercial building.

The planning for 20 apartments suitable for senior citizens will be advanced in 2021.

A supermarket is to move into the ground floor.

Another municipal housing project is in the start-up phase on Kiebitzstrasse, with around 13 apartments being built for city employees.

The voluntary fire brigade continues, albeit at a slower pace: the city council wanted to expand and modernize the building on Carl-von-Linde-Strasse for 16 million.

Now the most essential things are done for 650,000 euros: emergency power generator, glass warehouse, hazardous materials warehouse.

Further measures have been postponed.

digitalization

The digital classroom found its way into high school and junior high school in 2019.

The city is installing a central server landscape in the town hall.

An IT expert supports teachers and students where problems arise.

“Up to now we had a lot of isolated solutions,” says Böck, “now we get the same standards for all schools.” Before the Corona crisis, he made the digitization of schools a top priority.

Now the primary and middle schools are being equipped: 1.14 million euros have been reserved.

Co-determination

When it comes to citizen participation, Unterschleißheim has been breaking new ground for years.

Citizens have long been able to use many of the administration's online services, for example when they need an ID.

There is also participatory budgeting, the e-citizens 'dialogue, as a direct line to the town hall, and the citizens' question time, where citizens can put questions directly to the city council.

And in the council information system on the homepage you can read the documents of the public meetings.

In this way, the city ensures transparency and a contemporary offer - even before Corona - which has proven itself in the pandemic.

Museum opened

+

The city museum is currently being rebuilt and is due to open in June.

As soon as you reach the exhibition rooms through a side entrance of the community center via the narrow staircase, the atmosphere becomes sensual: the room for painting is royal blue, the walls in front of which the city's history is presented are wine-red.

In summer, the city museum will shine with sparkling elegance.

It's not big, but it could still be a piece of jewelry, thanks in part to the paintings that Manfred Graf gave to the city.

Museum director Stephan Bachter hopes that he will be able to receive the first visitors at the end of June.

After the forced shutdown of culture, there is another reason why there is still another reason to wish for the summer: In July the open air at Rathausplatz will finally inspire concert lovers again.
