Marilyn Manson Releases Statement Following Abuse Allegations

2021-02-03T00:13:35.707Z

Marilyn Manson released a statement hours after actress Evan Rachel Wood said he "horribly abused" her for "years."

(CNN) -

Marilyn Manson responded to claims that he was abusive in previous relationships.

The singer took to his Instagram account on Monday night and wrote: “Obviously, my art and my life have long been magnets for controversy, but these recent claims about me are horrible distortions of reality.

My intimate relationships have always been totally consensual with like-minded partners.

Regardless of how - and why - others now choose to misrepresent the past, that is the truth.

Earlier that day, actress Evan Rachel Wood, who was previously engaged to the musician, wrote on Instagram that Manson, whose real name is Brian Warner, "horribly abused" her for "years."

"He started harassing me when I was a teenager and horribly abused me for years," she wrote.

“I was brainwashed and manipulated into submission.

I got sick of living in fear of retaliation, slander, or blackmail.

I'm here to expose this dangerous man and expose the many industries that have allowed him to do so, before he ruins more lives.

I sympathize with the many victims who will no longer be silent.

CNN has reached out to representatives for Wood and Marilyn Manson for further comment.

Wood and Manson started dating when she was 19 and he was 38. They got engaged in 2010, but ended their relationship a few months later.

Marilyn Manson record label cuts ties

Following Wood's release, Marilyn Manson's record label Loma Vista Recordings severed the link with him and issued a statement.

“In light of today's shocking allegations by Evan Rachel Wood and other women naming Marilyn Manson as their abuser, Loma Vista will discontinue promoting her current album, effective immediately.

Due to these troubling events, we have also decided not to work with Marilyn Manson on future projects.

Marilyn Manson had a recurring role on Starz's "American Gods," but the network has now also decided to restrict her working relationship with him.

“Due to the allegations made against Marilyn Manson, we have decided to remove her performance from the remaining episode she is in, scheduled to air later this season.

Starz unequivocally supports all victims and survivors of abuse, "the network said in a statement.
