Tonight (Wednesday), Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu presented a plan to fight crime in the Arab sector after a visit to the National Police Headquarters in Jerusalem, together with Minister of Internal Security Amir Ohana.
According to the plan presented, about NIS 100 million will be invested in an operation to collect weapons, establish fire-fighting institutions and establish police stations.
He announced the appointment of Amos Franco, who served as the Jerusalem District Police Chief, to the project on this issue, which will be required in his role to include all anti-crime activities in Arab society.
The plan was presented against the background of the huge demonstration and killing of the student in the exchange of fire with police in Tamra.
"I intend to set up a special ministerial committee for the Arab sector, which I will chair and which will oversee the implementation of the plans to combat violence," Netanyahu declared.
"I expect and am confident that all our partners in the government will support this move," the prime minister added.
"Reality requires action and it cannot wait. I am personally committed to carrying out this huge task, which will give great hope for the future to every boy and girl."
