Rural Damascus - SANA
The municipal council in the Al-Assad villages, with the participation of the people, carried out today a planting campaign during which they planted more than 2000 trees, which varied between pine, cypress, date palms, henna dates, linden and azdrecht.
Chairman of the Council, Engineer Mazen Aoun, explained in a statement to the SANA delegate that the campaign is continuing and will be implemented in stages to reach the full plan of 3000 trees, indicating that the area that is planted today is ten dunums, distributed between Al-Assad Village Park and the old Beirut highway.
Aoun revealed that the plan for next year includes afforestation of all non-wooded areas in the villages, noting that last year, 3500 trees were planted, including the first and second neighborhoods, of which 1500 were olive trees.
The Director of Agriculture in Damascus Countryside, Eng. Irfan Ziada, stated in a similar statement that the Directorate is keen to secure all the plantings necessary to implement the governorate afforestation plan with the aim of expanding green spaces in all administrative units and preserving the vegetation cover.
