Attack on the US Capitol: "Still on the Threshold"

SPIEGEL:
Mr. Goldstone, is the US on the verge of massive political violence?
Goldstone:
We're close to that point.
I think President Biden now has a short grace period in which to do something about it.
SPIEGEL:
How did it come to this?
Goldstone:
Both political camps perceived the election as an existential one.
Democrats feared that if Trump won, it would destroy our democracy.
Republicans feared that Biden would build a socialist economy, open borders, and create a society of free immigration.

His main research interests include revolutions and uprisings.
He was an advisor to the Pentagon and the US State Department.
SPIEGEL:
How do you get the US out of there?
Goldstone:
It is possible to dispel these fears that have been fueled by the media.
Perhaps if Trump takes a back seat and is no longer an immediate threat, Democrats will relax a little.
And if Biden actually helps people, for example by giving them money during the corona crisis, then Republicans may come to the conclusion that having a Democrat in office is not so unbearable.
