Alcohol to go is of little use to hut owners in Tölzer Land

The Bavarian Administrative Court has temporarily overturned the nationwide ban on alcohol in public spaces. Many hut owners welcome this and are again offering alcoholic beverages to go. Most of them have already written off the winter season.

The Bavarian Administrative Court has temporarily overturned the nationwide ban on alcohol in public spaces.

Many hut owners welcome this and are again offering alcoholic beverages to go.

Most of them have already written off the winter season.

Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen

- the beer doesn't

last

long.

In March, or by April at the latest, the hop juice that Florian and Michaela Durach ordered in October will be spoiled - just before the catering had to close due to corona.

“We can probably throw all that away,” says the landlady of the Lenggrieser hut.

That alone means a loss of around 10,000 euros for the couple.

The fact that the alcohol ban in public places has been overturned probably does little to change that.

Nevertheless, Michaela Durach is happy about this news.

"Then we could serve mulled wine and normal beer." The tenant family is already selling tea, punch and bratwurst rolls on most weekends via window sales.

“This is well received in good weather,” says Michaela Durach.

“But you don't get rich from it.” The Durachs offer their to-go service primarily for the sake of their guests.

"They are happily surprised when they can buy something warm to drink from us."

"We have actually already written off the winter"

There is currently little reason to be happy for the hosts themselves.

"We have actually already written off winter," says Michaela Durach, looking at the business.

She does not assume that the restaurants and huts will be allowed to open again in mid-February.

“The gastronomy comes pretty much at the end, as bad as it is.” When the time comes, the Durachs at least expect good business.

“Thank goodness there will be a run,” says the hut landlady.

Nothing works before Easter.

Martin Ginhart, who runs the Blomberghaus together with his brother and father, also fears this.

The fact that the ban on alcohol in public spaces has been lifted has no consequences for the family business’s to-go service.

Already in the recent past the Ginharts sold mulled wine in cups, among other things, "in constant weather".

Because from the point of view of the Ginharts it is not clear what belongs to the public domain and what does not.

"This is not regulated by law on the mountain." However, food and drink were not allowed and are not allowed to drink and eat on the leased property of the Blomberghaus, emphasizes Ginhart.

Only five to ten percent of regular sales

Even in this case, the business model is not economically profitable.

The Blomberghaus makes five to ten percent sales of what would normally be generated with its to-go service - on good days.

“We do this for our guests,” says Martin Ginhart.

They are "incredibly grateful", also for the outside toilets that the Blomberghaus opens every day free of charge.

The financial reserves will be sufficient until mid-February.

Ginhart does not yet know exactly what will happen next.

He also assumes that the catering trade will not be allowed to open before Easter.

Beer, mulled wine and the like are not "bought noticeably often".

Show presence towards the guests and take responsibility for the employees - that's why the tenants of Bayernhütte, Michael Geyer and Natascha Fruscella-Geyer, offer a to-go offer.

According to Michael Geyer, this is of course not comparable to a normal business.

“But people are happy that there is something at all.

Many keep coming back, ”says the innkeeper happily.

In his opinion, the fact that there is no longer a ban on alcohol in public places changes the location of the catering trade relatively little.

“Most of them buy a warm coffee, punch or non-alcoholic wheat beer,” he notes.

Now and then there would be demand for mulled wine, beer and the like, but: "Not that often."
