A month and a half after the start of the vaccination campaign, starting today (Thursday), anyone over the age of 16 will be able to get vaccinated against the corona virus.

The four HMOs have received advance notice from the Ministry of Health to prepare for the cancellation of the priority and mass opening of the vaccination campaign.

In two of the funds, national and general, it has been possible since yesterday for all age groups to make an appointment and get vaccinated.

The other two funds, Maccabi and Meuhedet, decided to wait for today.

Recently, the HMOs reported that the load felt at the beginning of the operation among those aged 60 and over has passed.

However, the HMOs hope to reach the threshold of 240,000 vaccines per day, both in the first and second doses.

At the same time, the current wave of vaccines is characterized by young people who are used to making appointments online, so there will probably be less strain on the collapsed centers.

In the past week, there has been a slowdown in the rate of vaccinations, due to a decrease in responsiveness on the part of the public and the insistence not to open the priority.

As a result, the HMOs reduced their workforce in the vaccination centers and even closed small centers, from which they sent the vaccinated to receive the second dose in the large centers.

Following the decision of the Ministry of Health to open the priority, the HMOs are preparing to get the workers back, and even medics and paramedics from the IDF, who will help provide the vaccines. Increase the supply of vaccine doses as soon as transparent patients and the Ministry of Health will require it.

To date, 3,237,000 Israelis have been vaccinated with the first vaccine, of which 1,855,000 also received the second vaccine.

Among the age group of 60 and over, we have already vaccinated 84%, while in the decade between 80-70 we have already vaccinated 93%.

In all risk groups, another 194,000 people remain who need to be vaccinated.

Under the age of 60, immunization rates drop dramatically.

In the decade of 60-50 year olds, only 66% have been vaccinated so far and there are still about 233,000 people who are eligible for the vaccine.

Between the age of 16, where vaccination is allowed and up to the age of 50, there are another 2,363 people left who need to be vaccinated.

Despite the opening to the entire population, Health Minister Yuli Edelstein and the ministry's director general, Prof. Hezi Levy, ordered the HMOs to coordinate efforts in age groups aged 50 and over and among the confined.

The vaccinated in numbers

  • People aged 60 and over - 84% are vaccinated

  • 80-70 year olds - 93% get vaccinated

  • People aged 60-50 - 66% are vaccinated

The load is gone.

In the last two weeks, the HMOs have put pressure on senior Ministry of Health officials to remove the priority, and in one case even "took the law into their own hands."

Thus, two weeks ago, a discount was given to vaccinating only those aged 40 and over, but the HMOs called on those aged 35 and over to make an appointment and get vaccinated.

After the office saw that they had no choice, they decided to allow the 35-year-olds to be officially vaccinated.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Health feared a shortage of vaccines, as Pfizer announced that a slowdown in the supply of vaccines was expected in early February.

After these concerns were dispelled, and Israel received a sufficient supply of vaccines, the ministry ordered that the priority be removed.

In the current wave, it has been decided that hospitals will not receive a stock of vaccines, and all vaccines will go directly to the HMOs.

Another problem is that a high rate of vaccinations can usually be seen in the green or yellow regional cities and councils.

At the top of the vaccinators' table is the Tel Mond Regional Council with 80% immunization, and it is also defined in yellow at the traffic light colors.

It is followed by a large margin with the Green Blades with 66% immunization.

On the other hand, at the bottom of the list is the Bedouin locality of Ksifa in the south, which is considered a bright red locality, where the percentage of vaccinated is only 3%.

There are cities where the percentage of vaccinated is high, but the color of the city will not allow the education system to be opened upon leaving the quarantine.

Shoham, where we vaccinated close to 60% of the residents, is an orange city.

Even Mazkeret Batya, with a rate of 55% immunization in the community and 100% of those aged 60 and over, is still painted red.
