Munich - The 200-year-old commercial building on Stachus, which has housed the Karstadt Sports branch for the past four decades, has a real future.
In the future, there will no longer be just one large retailer at the prominent location in the best inner city location.
"We want to create a modern, flexible mixed-use building out of it," explains Markus Diegelmann, managing director of the real estate company Accumulata.
Means: Instead of a pure trading building, as in the past, there will be various shops and also office areas at the Stachus in the future.
The renovation will start in the next few days, and completion should take place by 2024.
Important: The so-called repositioning does not affect the facade of the building, which dates from 1806 and has shaped the image of the pedestrian zone ever since.
This emerges from a message from Accumulata, which is taking the renovation for the building owner, Euro Real Estate, in hand.

"We have always felt particularly strongly connected to Munich * and would like to develop a completely new, daylight-flooded interior concept in close cooperation with the authorities," explains Ralf Peter, Managing Director of Euro Real Estate.
And: “After the repositioning, we will keep the property in our portfolio for the long term.” The historic Karstadt Sports building with its 144,000 square meters had previously belonged to René Benko's real estate empire.
In the summer of last year, it was clear that Karstadt would have to give up this location in the course of its bankruptcy.
The new owner has already made the Elisenhof fit for the future in Munich, and the Forum Steglitz in Berlin has a new look.
With high-quality shops on the lower floors and offices above, it could serve as a model for the Karstadt building.
