Wolfratshausen - one man, one word.

Günter Marhold had circled Lake Starnberg 221 times on his training laps, took a pebble from the shore for each finish and collected it in two glass containers at home (we reported).

At the end of January, the ultra runner from Wolfratshausen wanted to get the 222th stone, which he succeeded.

  • Günter Marhold has participated in 111 ultra competitions during his active career.

  • The now 52-year-old Wolfratshauser was a member of the national team.

  • His favorite training route leads around Lake Starnberg.

The round is about 50 kilometers long.

On a beautiful winter day, the 52-year-old ran the approximately 50 kilometers ("All alone, while I was indulging in my thoughts and impressions") around the Würmsee, as Marhold calls the water according to its original name.

It was only when his longtime ultra-comrade Thomas Fuchs, with whom he had already chased football at DJK Waldram, congratulated him on this triumph, "I only really realized that the 222 had actually become a reality".

So extrapolated, over the years he had traveled more than 11,000 kilometers.

“During my most intense time as an ultra runner, I often started running from Wolfratshausen.

That was around 72 kilometers, ”reports Marhold.

Not to forget the detours and stops that he made.

To the wonderful Maisinger Gorge behind Pöcking, for example (“That was a total of 55 or 60 kilometers”).

Or with a swing to Andechs Monastery.

"Once I ran around the lake twice," the 52-year-old remembers and adds: "It was always something special."

How are you going now?

When spring arrives, the Wolfratshauser wants to set off with his glass containers.

"I'll sit down on the bank, give the lake its pebbles back and thank you humbly that I was allowed to do it," reveals Marhold.

And it is by no means ruled out that he will continue to use his favorite running and training route in the future - "hopefully soon again with several friends".
