More than 140,000 people are vaccinated in Chile in one day | CNN

The Minister of Health of Chile, Enrique Paris, gave a balance of people vaccinated against covid-19, after the massive immunization campaign in the country will begin this Wednesday.

The beneficiaries on this day are people over 90 years of age.

Paris indicated that at the close of the day, 140,412 vaccines had been applied, to reach a total of 209,501 people who have received the first dose in Chile.

He highlighted that, of them, 66.1% are women and 33.9% are men.

Earlier, the minister indicated that, although it is still a low percentage of the population, it is a satisfaction to have taken this step.

The minister added that from a health point of view, so far, the process was "impeccable" since all the qualified vaccination centers (about 1,422) are operational.

The first vaccinations in the southern country were on December 24, 2020, to health personnel working in intensive care units with the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine.

In mid-January they immunized older adults residing in long-stay establishments.

During this day the vaccine from the Chinese laboratory Sinovac was used.

For his part, President Sebastián Piñera celebrated the day by saying that it was a great day for Chile, full of joy and hope for all.

The Ministry of Health confirmed this Wednesday 736,645 cases of coronavirus and 18,576 deaths associated with the disease.
