The arrests of Fajardo and Cuadras come after the National Assembly, controlled by the ruling Sandinista Front, approved a reform.
The change in the Code of Criminal Procedure allows the detention of a person between 15 and 90 days.
This, while being investigated for an alleged crime.
This Wednesday, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Central America and the Dominican Republic questioned that reform.
