Wyoming Republican Congresswoman Liz Cheney will retain her seat as the third-highest-ranking Republican in the House of Representatives after the Republican Party held a closed-door vote Wednesday night.
Cheney holds that rank because she is the Speaker of the Republican Conference in the Lower House.
The secret vote was 145 to 61, demonstrating overwhelming support for the congresswoman, who has been on the ropes within the ranks of her party, after becoming
one of the 10 Republicans in the Lower House who voted in favor of subject Donald Trump to a second impeachment trial
for "inciting" the Capitol uprising on January 6.

Some high-ranking Republicans have rejected Cheney's decision, who has refused to apologize for his vote in favor of impeachment against the former president.

"There has never been a greater betrayal on the part of a president of the United States in charge and his oath to the Constitution. I will vote to impeach the president," said the Republican before casting her vote.
She is a rising party leader and daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney.

The congresswoman has been an assiduous critic of Trump, which has also prompted a campaign against him by Republican politicians in Wyoming, who
seek to have voters strip her of her seat in Congress in the next elections
, claiming that she broke ranks with the Republican Party and that she has not represented the political interests of those who elected her.
Wyoming is a solidly Republican stronghold.
Wyoming Republican State Senator Anthony Bouchard already announced last month that he will contest the seat of Cheney, who will run for reelection in 2022.
