a car went up in flames on Thursday morning.

Fortunately, the driver was uninjured.

According to the police, the fitter (54) from Berlin was on his way to revision work in the Walchensee power plant at around 7.15 a.m. when he noticed a strange smell.

He pulled over, got out - and noticed the fire in the engine compartment.

The emergency call from the man, who temporarily lives in Kochel for work, reached the local fire department at 7.19 a.m.

When the emergency services arrived at the scene of the fire a few minutes later, the Mercedes was ablaze.

The column of smoke was visible from afar, says Commander Hubert Resenberger.

“There was nothing more to be done.” With “massive use of water and foam”, the around 20 emergency services quickly got the flames under control.

Despite the rapid intervention of the Kochler fire brigade, the car burned out completely.

The fire brigade then cleaned the road, among other things.

The mission was over after two hours.

Resenberger assumes a technical defect as the cause of the fire in the 20-year-old Mercedes.

The Kochler police estimate the damage at around 3,000 euros.

According to the police, the municipality must clarify whether the asphalt has also been damaged.

The wreck was recovered by the Schwan towing service.
