At about 1 am today (5th), it was reported that after a petrol truck picked up oil from the Tsing Yi oil depot, it drove along the North Lantau Highway towards the airport, intending to transport the oil to a petrol station there.
On the way to the vicinity of Baimang Wharf, the left rear wheel suspected a tyre burst and a fire. Upon seeing this, the male driver and the man following the car hurriedly parked the car on the side of the road, jumped to escape and called the police.
Sources at the scene stated that the two people also tried to use fire extinguishers to put out the fire, but unfortunately they were unsuccessful. Eventually firefighters arrived and sprayed chemical foam to put out the fire.
Fortunately, the fire did not cause a major explosion and no one was injured.
The fire department is investigating the cause of the fire.
