French foreign trade lived in 2020 according to events, the fall in production and demand being stalled on the periods of restrictions.
Each season was different from the last, the underlying trend nevertheless remaining difficult for French exporters.
Over the first eleven months of the year, the hexagonal trade deficit amounted to 61 billion euros, according to the latest customs figures.
If the recently observed pace continues until the end of the year, 2020 should end with a hole of around 64 billion euros (after 59 billion in 2019).
“The year was marked by a sharp decline in exports and a deterioration in our deficit. This is no surprise given the shock of the crisis. However, the extent of the air gap was limited by the rebound in exports in the second quarter, which at the end of the year almost returned to their pre-crisis level ”
