The good news first: So far, the disease has only developed mildly.

But the case of Lenzheim in Garmisch-Partenkirchen makes one sit up and take notice: There are 24 positive corona cases after the second round of vaccination.

  • Twelve employees and twelve residents have tested positive for the corona virus in Lenzheim in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

  • Some of them have already received the second Corona vaccination dose.

    The phenomenon is not new.

  • All those affected are doing well, they have so far only shown very weak symptoms.

  • Everything from the region is now also available in our new, regular GAP newsletter.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen

- You have already read about it: Vaccinated people who were subsequently tested positive for corona.

Cases had been registered in the northern Bavarian district of Kronach at the beginning of the year or most recently in the Fürstenfeldbruck area a few days ago.

This phenomenon has now also occurred in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

In the

Lenzheim of the Rummelsberger Diakonie

in the Partenkirchen district, twelve employees and twelve residents (out of 98) are currently infected - making a total of 24 positive cases.

Wolfgang Rotzsche

sends the most important information

straight away: “All of them have had a

very mild course of the disease

so far,

” emphasizes the press spokesman for the district office.

None of the infected people currently have to be treated as an inpatient at the hospital.

This is confirmed by Georg Borngässer, press spokesman at the Rummelsberger Diakonie.

Corona in Garmisch-Partenkirchen: three non-vaccinated among the positive cases

Of course, this news makes you sit up and take notice: Vaccinated people who suddenly show a positive result after a throat and nose swab even after the second dose of active ingredient.

The fact is: The second round of vaccination was completed in Lenzheim on January 20th.

Among the residents who are now infected are three who have not been vaccinated, and some of the employees have closed down on this precautionary measure.

How it came to the outbreak is unclear.

“We are a little at a loss,” admits Borngässer.

He makes one thing clear: "Even after the vaccination, we did not relax, we strictly adhere to the guidelines." On the other hand, one thing is clear: in a corona series test before the second vaccination round,

a

positive case

came to light

on

January 20th

.

According to the current recommendations for vaccination, he was not given the second syringe in the upper arm that day.

"The other residents were vaccinated anyway, because it is clear instructions to vaccinate anyway in such a case," explains Rotzsche after consulting the medical officers.

The reason for this is the milder course to be expected in the event of an actual infection of residents.

Why are vaccinated people positive?

According to the RKI, studies are planned

It is unclear whether the infections were triggered by the positive case.

They were recognized after another series test last Friday.

"After a positive result, tests are carried out at regular intervals until all are negative again," explains Rotzsche.

After that test on January 29, the positive cases have now been reported to the health department.

The health department cannot make a clear statement about why people who have already been vaccinated are positive.

Even the Robert Koch Institute emphasizes on its homepage that there is no 100 percent protection from the vaccination and that this is only fully achieved after a certain period of up to 14 days after the respective dose.

Whether and how strongly these positive cases are then has not yet been researched.

"Various studies on this issue are planned or are already underway," the note says.

Very mild symptoms in those affected

The good news in this matter remains the very mild symptoms in those affected.

"With some, the course is so mild that the disease can hardly be proven," confirms Rotzsche.

In the meantime, operations in Lenzheim continue to operate in accordance with all hygiene regulations.

“The residents are isolated in their rooms,” emphasizes Borngässer.

The health department has assigned nursing students to the facility so that care for the elderly is ensured.

The press man emphasizes: "The cooperation is going very well."
