Many seniors want to be vaccinated against Corona, but despair when registering.

Finally there is support.

Among other things by footballers.

Dachau / Indersdorf

- Seniors have been complaining about problems with vaccination registration for weeks.

Congested phone lines, the struggle with online registration.

All of this is a thing of the past, as District Administrator Stefan Löwl assures.

Because desperate people who want to be vaccinated will from now on be called back and given their appointment - according to the praised "Freising Way" when registering for the vaccination.

At the end of January, the Dachau district office sent a letter to the 9,110 district citizens who are over 80 years old and, according to the federal government, have the highest priority in the order of the corona vaccination, to register for the vaccination.

However, attempts to log in often failed due to an overloaded telephone line.

In the meantime, the district office refers to the portal for vaccination registration of the Bavarian Ministry of Health - where many despair when entering the data (we reported).

Things are going better in the Freising district

The district of Freising is a role model: Seniors can register there by letter and email and are called as soon as appointments are available.

A local politician from the Dachau district: Hubert Böck is responsible for this.

Böck, voluntary SPD district councilor and municipal councilor in Indersdorf, is full-time head of the rescue service of the Bavarian Red Cross (BRK) in Freising and also deputy managing director.

As such, he is responsible for the organization of the vaccination center in Freising.

When registering for the vaccination, a conscious decision was made against a telephone hotline, explains Böck.

“We call people and give them the appointment.

That means they don't hang on hold for hours. ”That goes down well.

At the end of December, the over 80-year-olds - around 10,000 people in the Freising district - were contacted by the district administration and received anamnesis sheet and information sheet on vaccination.

Seniors can register by letter or e-mail along with completed documents.

"We received 4,000 registrations by post, 2,500 to 3,000 by email," says Böck.

In the beginning, the senders were sorted and scheduled according to the date they were received, but now they are sorted according to age, "so that the older ones come first".

Everything has worked well, "we invite you two days in advance, and people are happy that they have an appointment".

Those who have not yet been called, however, get restless.

“We have a lot of inquiries as to why we don't get in touch,” reports Böck.

This is of course due to the scarce availability of the vaccine - as everywhere.

"We will now inform everyone of whom we already have the documents that we will invite them as soon as we have the vaccine," explains Böck.

All younger citizens from the Freising district are referred to the vaccination registration website.

"We use it when we have finished our 80-year-olds." In the Freising district, residents and employees in the retirement homes as well as employees in the clinics received their second vaccination last week, while the vaccinations run in the vaccination center, just like in the district Dachau.

The problems with registration, for which District Administrator Stefan Löwl apologized to the senior citizens in a second letter, should now also be a thing of the past: Löwl assures that the telephone line on 116 117 has not been overloaded since the end of last week.

"We only have about 50 calls a day," said Löwl.

At the beginning of January, on the first appointment day, more than 4,000 people tried to get one of the 350 appointments available at the Dachau vaccination center alone.

Seniors in the Dachau district get help

In addition, the district of Dachau is now relying on the support of seniors in registering for vaccinations: "Independent organizations such as Caritas, neighborhood helpers and associations will offer the seniors support, both when registering by telephone and via the vaccination platform on the Internet," said Löwl.

In Indersdorf, for example, the footballers agree to support the elderly.

Seniors can contact Johannes Popfinger by calling 01 57/80 64 33 27 or by email to johannes.popfinger@gmx.de.

Löwl also promises help over the phone: “If someone writes to us that he has not reached anyone for weeks, we will forward it to the vaccination centers.

The employees will then contact them by phone, advise and make an individual appointment.

The registration of those willing to vaccinate from Dachau should be done via the online portal www.impfzentren.bayern or via the telephone number 116 117.

The call centers of the two vaccination centers in Dachau and Karlsfeld are open Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
