Honduran Cardinal Oscar Andrés Rodríguez Madariaga tested positive for covid-19, said the spokesman for the Archdiocese of Tegucigalpa, Juan Ángel López, on the Catholic television channel Suyapa Medios.
López explained that the cardinal was admitted to a private clinic on Wednesday after presenting a fever.
After rigorous tests, the diagnosis was confirmed.

Rodríguez Madariaga, 78, will continue to be hospitalized under medical supervision because he suffers from diabetes.
López said he had the opportunity to talk with the prelate.
Rodríguez Madariaga told him that he feels good and asked Hondurans to pray for their compatriots.
The spokesman for the Catholic Church said they do not know where the cardinal could have been infected.
He also reported that they are taking measures to prevent both priests and close collaborators from becoming infected.
