The economist and former finance minister is now the only candidate for the post of director general of the World Trade Organization, after the withdrawal of the South Korean trade minister.

Nigerian candidate Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, former Minister of Finance, is now the only candidate for the post of Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

The horizon has clearly brightened for the 66-year-old economist, who spent twenty-five years at the World Bank, following the resignation of the South Korean candidate, Yoo Myung-hee, Minister of Commerce.

Initially, they were eight contenders to want to succeed the Brazilian Roberto Azevedo, who had announced his withdrawal in the midst of a pandemic, a year before the end of his mandate.
