Nigerian candidate Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, former Minister of Finance, is now the only candidate for the post of Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO).
The horizon has clearly brightened for the 66-year-old economist, who spent twenty-five years at the World Bank, following the resignation of the South Korean candidate, Yoo Myung-hee, Minister of Commerce.
Seoul formalized it on Friday, adding that the decision was made after consulting with the United States, its main supporter, as well as other capitals.
Initially, they were eight contenders to want to succeed the Brazilian Roberto Azevedo, who had announced his withdrawal in the midst of a pandemic, a year before the end of his mandate.

To be nominated, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala must obtain the consensus of the 164 member states.
If at the end of October, the succession committee designated her as favorite, she lacked the decisive voice of the United States.
