Spain approved on Friday the use of the AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine for people up to 55 years of age, according to a statement from the Spanish Ministry of Health.

The statement confirmed that 55 years was the maximum age established to receive the first doses of the vaccine, which will arrive this weekend at a facility in Spain.

In addition, active medical professionals and health workers who "were not previously included in groups 2 and 3" will begin to be vaccinated.

The vaccine will arrive in Spain this weekend after the marketing of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) led to the European Commission authorizing "adults over 18 years of age" to receive the vaccine, according to the statement.

The statement confirmed that the approved and recommended interval for the administration of AstraZeneca is up to 10 or 12 weeks between each dose, as announced last year by the Minister of Health, Carolina Darias.
