The Bayern legend makes an exception for FC Penzberg

It began on a swampy area that had to be painstakingly filled with ash and debris so that it could be used as a football field.

That was the beginning of FC Penzberg 100 years ago.

Later, in 1955 and 1956, the great hours followed - the season in the second division with games against FC Bayern, the first leg in Penzberg in front of around 7,000 fans.

- Even after that, the club offered plenty of topics to talk about: for example, the career of professional footballer Wiggerl Kögl or the 1997/98 season when FC played with three Namibian national players in the B-class.

Or finally the move from the FC site, which is now a residential area and a supermarket, to the Nonnenwaldstadion.

You can read about this in a chronicle that the Penzberg author Stefan König wrote about FC Penzberg.

It is not just a club chronicle, it is a piece of the city's history, emphasized deputy chairman Andreas Rauchberger.

The chronicle was actually supposed to appear in summer 2020 - in time for the 100th anniversary of the club.

Due to the corona pandemic, not only were a large part of the celebrations canceled, such as the game against a higher-class team, the gala evening and the big party that was planned for the summer.

The completion of the chronicle was also delayed.

The chronicle is now ready.

Shortly before Christmas, the FC was able to send them to the members.

The city council members received the book at the end of January.

As soon as the shops are allowed to reopen, the FC wants to display the chronicle free of charge.

He really enjoyed the work, says König.

The goal was that it is not only interesting for club members.

A "great team" helped him.

König found what he was looking for in the city archive and with the former FC manager Alfred Wiendl.

He also had many conversations with museum director Diana Oesterle, who had researched Karl Wald for last year's exhibition, the inventor of the penalty shoot-out, who is also part of FC history.

FC Vice-Smoking Berger was impressed by the story from the chapter about the 2nd division, when players put their shifts in the mine so that they had time for training in the evening.

FC can also be proud of an interview with Wiggerl Kögl (“the FC legend par excellence”), who won six German championships with FC Bayern and VfB Stuttgart and played in the national team.

Kögl has actually not given any interviews for years.

He made an exception for his hometown club.

The professional footballer was a youth player at FC Penzberg, but he only wore the first team's jersey once: for one half in September 1990, when FC Bayern were at the opening game of the Nonnenwaldstadion.

Kögl tells of the time when he came to FC Bayern.

He was just doing his training in the Penzberg town hall.

At that time, FC Bayern manager Uli Hoeneß had to compete with Mayor Kurt Wessner in order to have himself certified that Kögl, should it not work out at FC Bayern, may continue his training.

In return, Wessner received the promise that FC Bayern would play at the opening of the Nonnenwaldstadion, which happened several years later.

And what are the current goals of FC Penzberg?

According to Vice-boss Rauchberger, they want to continue playing for promotion to the regional league if the remaining games of the season take place at some point.

In addition, the FC has registered for the Futsal Bundesliga, which starts in 2022.

The boys, so Rauchberger, are really hot.
