The decision of the International Criminal Court in The Hague (Friday) is causing a stir in the United States and Israel, while the Palestinian Authority welcomes it.
United States State Department spokesman Ned Price said tonight that his country is studying the decision that the tribunal has the authority to investigate Israel for alleged crimes during Eitan Cliff.
"We are concerned about the decision and the possibility that the court will open an investigation against Israel," he said.
Price added that the United States has the same principles as those pursued by the criminal court, but indirectly argued that it has no authority to do so.
"We share the goals of the tribunal but at the same time we always thought that the jurisdiction of the tribunal should apply only to countries that agree to it or if and the UN Security Council decides to do so," he said.
