A woman killed in Cabourg, her companion indicted

The existence of possible previous incidents is being verified. For the moment, neither complaints nor handrails have been found, said the Cabourg prosecutor's office.


The man in his twenties suspected of having killed his companion Thursday in Cabourg (Calvados) was indicted for "murder", announced this Saturday Amélie Cladière, public prosecutor of Caen.

His provisional detention was requested by the prosecution, said the magistrate for whom the hearings of the accused revealed the hypothesis of an

"accidental death, following the handling of a loaded firearm"

"This version cannot be excluded at this stage, but the prosecution considers that there are currently sufficient charges to retain, in the state of the file, a voluntary act

," she explained.

"It will be up to the investigating magistrate now seized to lead the technical investigations and gather the evidence to arrive at the manifestation of the truth,"

And to add that the accused is "

already known to the police and the judiciary, in particular in the context of drug consumption and incidents against the police"

Within the couple, "

the existence of possible previous incidents is still being verified but have not been found for the moment neither complaints, nor

handbooks", added Mrs. Cladière.

The man presented himself to the police on Thursday morning and was taken into police custody.

The body of the woman, in her thirties, had been found in a hotel in Cabourg where the couple lived.

Ninety women were killed by their spouses or ex-spouses in 2020, according to the Chancellery.
