US President Joe Biden believes former President Donald Trump should not be briefed on classified intelligence.

This is in contrast to past presidents, who could traditionally ask for and receive briefings after they have already left the White House.

Biden attributed his remarks to Trump's "unstable behavior," but stressed that it was "regardless of the uprising" that took place in the Capitol.

In an interview with CBS yesterday (Friday), Biden said he "prefers not to guess out loud" when asked what he fears will happen if Trump continues to receive the briefings.

"I just think there is no need for him to accept them. What value is there in giving him an intelligence briefing? What effect does he have at all, other than the fact that he might emit something?", The president added.

Contrary to Biden's position, White House spokeswoman Jen Saki told CNN last Thursday that "the intelligence community supports requests for intelligence briefings by former presidents, and will review any incoming request, as they always did."

Although a senior official in the Biden administration, who said Trump has not yet applied for briefings, made it clear that there are many ways in which intelligence can be presented.

While in office, Trump was known for not regularly or fully reading the daily presidential briefing, which is a top-secret summary of national secrets.

He is briefed orally two or three times a week by intelligence representatives.

Former Deputy National Intelligence Director Sue Gordon, who resigned after two years in office in the Trump administration, said last month in response to riots that erupted in the Capitol that Trump "could be unusually vulnerable to bad actors with bad intentions."

In 2019 after the resignation of Gordon, who had worked in intelligence for more than 30 years, she described that Trump's most routine response to briefings was to doubt everything he was told.

"The intelligence community will consider any request for briefings."

In addition, Biden declined in an interview to say whether he would have voted for Trump's conviction in next week's impeachment trial in the Senate, if he was still an incumbent senator.

"Look, I ran like crazy to defeat him because I thought he was unfit to be president. I watched what everyone was watching, what happened when that team invaded the United States Congress. But I'm not in the Senate right now. I will let the Senate make that decision."

"I'm been saying this for over a year, Trump is not fit to serve. He is one of the most incompetent presidents in the history of the United States of America," Biden added.
