Candidates wanted for Penzberg's climate committee: "Don't lose another day"

It has been a little over a year since the Penzberg city council put together a large climate package.

One of the building blocks was the establishment of a climate advisory board.

Now he should go to the start.

However, the city is still looking for a few members: from agriculture, from the youth and from the senior citizens' council.

Penzberg

- The climate council is to advise the city council, its committees and the town hall on local climate protection.

Its aim is to help Penzberg to adapt to the "ecological, economic and social consequences of ongoing climate change" and to promote municipal activities in these fields.

This is the work order.

In its most recent meeting, the city council unanimously adopted rules of procedure for the “Expert Advisory Board on Climate Protection, Environment and Energy of the City of Penzberg”.

The establishment of the Climate Advisory Council goes back to a city council decision in November 2019.

At that time, a large climate package was put together which, among many other points, also included the appointment of a climate protection manager.

Carl-Christian Zimmermann has been there since last October.

At the beginning of 2020 there was already a climate committee.

But he was only granted a short time.

It met only once in early March.

Then it was over again because of the corona pandemic.

Now it is more or less about a start-up with partly new members.

However, if all positions were to be filled again, according to Zimmermann, there would be a risk that the climate protection plan would not continue this year.

“And we really shouldn't lose a day,” he says.

Four meetings planned per year

Because, according to him, one of the first tasks will be to continue the “integrated climate protection concept of the city of Penzberg within an action plan” - which is also a requirement of the 2019 climate package.

We are looking for “innovative and creative ideas with an environmental focus”.

A platform for this creativity is the climate council, which is supposed to meet four times a year in public.

It is also desirable that the Climate Council be an independent body.

This means that it includes mayors, city architects and climate protection managers.

The political groups can also send representatives.

However, according to the rules of procedure, none of them have voting rights.

On the other hand, representatives of the Oberland energy transition, the senior citizens' advisory council, agriculture, nature and environmental protection and young people should be members of the climate council with voting rights.

City council decides on occupation

The city has now launched a call for this.

She is looking for a representative from agriculture, two young people (up to the age of 24) and a member of the senior citizens' council who want to get involved in the advisory board.

A representative of the Penzberger Bund Naturschutz will also belong to it - the association is responsible for naming it, according to the town hall.

Applicants should have “a professional qualification”.

According to the city, a corresponding degree or apprenticeship or voluntary work in the environmental sector is desirable.

The existing applications would be evaluated by the existing Rumpf climate committee.

The city council decides who is appointed to the advisory board.

In the most recent meeting he also discussed inviting Penzberger representatives from “Fridays for Future” directly.

The group does not currently exist, said Martin Janner (PM).

But it would be good if the young people knew “that a place has been reserved for them”.

After all, it was they who “shook us adults up,” said Janner.

"We need the youth to be uncompromising." Zimmermann explained that he had made contact, but without success.

Christian Abt (CSU) said that the participation of young people should not be tied to "Fridays for Future" anyway, because there are other groups with young people such as Greenpeace or the Bund Naturschutz.

Applications

Anyone who wants to apply as a representative of agriculture, youth or senior citizens' advisory board member can contact the urban climate protection manager, department 6, by February 21: email to carl.zimmermann@penzberg.de.
