Moscow / Omsk - “Suddenly died” is the Russian doctor who treated Alexej Navalny last August.

This is announced by his employer, a clinic in Omsk.

Sergei Maksimischin was the deputy head physician for anesthesiology and resuscitation at the hospital where the Kremlin critic Navalny was admitted immediately after a poison attack.

Leonid Volkov, a senior Navalny employee, told CNN that Maksimishin was responsible for Navalny's treatment.

“He knew more than anyone about Alexei's condition,” he explains.

Now Nawalny's lifesaver is dead. There is no official cause of death.

The British

Daily Mail

reported heart failure in the 55-year-old.

According to Volkov, however, a “wrong game” cannot be ruled out.

However, the Russian health system is very poor and it is not uncommon for doctors to suddenly die at his age.

Alexej Navalny: After being poisoned in Russia, he was flown to Germany for treatment

Oppositionists are repeatedly killed in Russia under sometimes questionable circumstances *.

Volkov's boss Navalny assumes that such a demise was planned for him too.

It suddenly collapsed on a flight in August 2020.

After the emergency landing in the city of Omsk, he was taken to a hospital.

Maksimischin treated him there and was thus instrumental in saving Putin's opponent's life.

Afterwards, Navalny received further treatment for many weeks in Germany at the Berlin Charité.

Several laboratories there found that it was poisoning with the warfare agent Novichok.

Russia, on the other hand, claims that Navalny was not poisoned and is therefore not initiating an investigation.

The opposition member himself blames the Russian government for the attack.

The case caused tension in the German-Russian relationship *.

Russia: Navalny's doctor suddenly dies, but the Kremlin critic is on trial again

The Putin opponent returned to his home country after his recovery in mid-January and was arrested by the authorities.

On Tuesday a court in Moscow found him for alleged violations of probation conditions

sentenced to several years imprisonment.

He was sent to a prison camp for two years and eight months.

The judges' decision sparked a wave of protests in Russia.

Tens of thousands of people recently took to the streets for Navalny's release and against Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin *.

Meanwhile, another trial against Navalny for defaming a World War II veteran has begun in Moscow.

The 44-year-old appeared in court on Friday - in a glass box intended for defendants, as an AFP reporter reported.

If convicted, his sentence could be extended by several years.

A fine of the equivalent of up to 56,000 euros would also be possible.

Navalny had shared the video of a World War II veteran who spoke out in favor of Putin's constitutional referendum on Twitter and described the veteran and other people as "shame on the country", "people without a conscience" and "traitors".

A judgment is not yet expected on Friday.
