The official poster of the Oktoberfest 2021 bears the signature of the airport, more precisely by Maria Dick von der Allresto.

Who is behind this creative spirit?

Airport - boredom makes you creative, they say.

That applies to Maria Dick.

She has a lot of time in the corona pandemic, and she used it sensibly.

The 26-year-old is a graphic designer and works for Allresto.

The catering subsidiary of Flughafen München GmbH had to send almost its entire workforce to short-time work.

So Dick spent most of the time at home in her Munich apartment and had a lot of time to think.

She knew that the Oktoberfest poster was advertised anew every year.

But there was always no time to participate.

When she was approached by friends in lockdown to take part in the competition, the young woman's creative spirits awoke.

It carries the Wiesn gene anyway.

"I'm passionate about going to the Oktoberfest," reveals Dick, and: "I'm actually there every year."

Dick got the first suggestion when she looked out the window in September.

In normal times she would have seen the masses pilgrimage towards Theresienwiese.

Very few people were out in 2020.

“But I noticed that an unbelievable number of them were dressed in traditional costumes.” In dirndls and lederhosen, many Munich residents expressed their commitment to the world's largest festival.

That made the graphic designer philosophical.

“Maybe you can keep the people of Munich away from the Oktoberfest.

But you can't get the Oktoberfest out of Munich, ”the young woman is convinced.

This connection was to become the basis of Dick's motive.

She chose an art that has little to do with Munich tradition: hearts surrounded by thorns are a popular image in tattoos.

But spikes really do not speak for a peaceful Oktoberfest.

That's why they turned into hops.

The heart itself, of course - made of gingerbread.

Including a crisp pretzel, flanked by two overflowing beer mugs.

“It's kind of like a Oktoberfest tattoo that every Munich resident has,” she says.

"First I painted a watercolor picture that I scanned and then edited on the computer," reports the 26-year-old.

For two weeks she kept tinkering with her motif.

Many suggestions and encouraging criticism came from the circle of friends.

In October she sent in her draft, this week she received the good news: The city of Munich has decided on her picture.

Now Dick is not only overjoyed, but can also look forward to 2,500 euros in prize money.

In addition, there are license fees so that the state capital can print its motif on T-shirts, sweaters, mugs and accessories.

Should the Oktoberfest take place, the 26-year-old is also invited to tap in the Schottenhamel tent.

And of course she gets a mug with her motif.

"I would be so happy if the Oktoberfest can take place, not only because of my poster," she reveals, but also says: "The Oktoberfest can only take place when it is safe." There would be no real fun if one had to fear to be able to catch Corona.

For Dick, the win was an encouragement in difficult times.

She looks forward to being able to hang on to the Allresto with full strength again.

Because the many restaurants, and especially the Airbräu, bear their signature - in the truest sense of the word.

She co-designed all posters, menus, displays and other decorative items.

The FMG subsidiary, after all the owner of the world's only brewery at an airport, is proud of its colleague.

"Managing director Andreas Reichert has already congratulated me personally," says Dick with a smile.

As is well known, only Munich beer can be served at the Oktoberfest.

This year's Oktoberfest poster brings the Airbräu to the world's largest folk festival in a particularly creative way.
