(CNN Spanish) -

Three candidates seeking the Presidency of Ecuador will not be able to vote this Sunday in the country, for various reasons.

Andrés Arauz, who was emerging according to some polls as one of the favorites for the election this Sunday, February 7, will not be able to vote in the country because he is registered in the electoral roll of Ecuadorians residing in Mexico, according to public information from the Council Electoral National (CNE).

The Union for Hope candidate (left), who supports former President Rafael Correa, is studying for his doctorate in the Mexican capital and was unable to change his electoral precinct.

A second candidate for the Presidency, Juan Fernando Velasco, will not be able to vote either because he is registered in Miami.

Velasco of the Construye Movement (center) has a recognized career in the music industry and was based in South Florida before entering politics.

CNN corroborated on the CNE website that neither of them is listed in the electoral registry in Ecuador.

The fact that Arauz and Velasco are not registered in Ecuador does not impact their candidacies.

Guillermo Celi has covid-19

On the eve of the elections, candidate Guillermo Celi, from the Suma Movement (center), announced on social networks that he had tested positive for a routine covid-19 test, so he will not be able to attend to vote either.

"I'm fine, thank God, following the doctors' instructions," Celi told CNN on Saturday.

«I cannot attend to avoid infecting other people.

This is what I am doing now with my wife, who is infected.

We are in isolation, "he added.
