US diplomats, security and military officials called on President Joe Biden to return to the nuclear agreement with Iran signed in 2015, stressing that the policy of former President Donald Trump was disastrous for the national security of their country.
And according to the American newspaper Newsweek, a group of 41 former military, security and diplomatic officials in the United States warned in President Biden's message that failure to take this important step means a costly new war in the Middle East region, pointing to the empty hostile rhetoric of Trump.
In a related context, the American "Bloomberg" agency revealed that the Biden administration is looking for ways to reduce financial pressure on Iran without lifting economic sanctions, including those imposed on oil sales.
The agency quoted four sources familiar with the Biden administration’s plans as saying that some of the options that US officials are discussing include providing support to the International Monetary Fund to help Tehran mitigate the impact of the Corona pandemic. Other options include easing sanctions that prevent international aid from reaching Iran in the area of Corona.
The agency indicated that such moves could be justified on humanitarian grounds, and considered that this measure comes as a step towards reviving the 2015 nuclear agreement from which the Trump administration withdrew in 2018.
It is noteworthy that the United States of America announced on May 8, 2018, its withdrawal from the nuclear agreement with Iran, which was reached between the International Six-Party as international sponsors (Russia, the United States, Britain, China, France and Germany "and Iran in 2015 and re-imposed wide-ranging sanctions against Tehran and the countries. It is a move that was opposed by the rest of the five international mediating members. The European partners also announced to Washington that they intend to continue to abide by the terms of the deal with Iran.
