The Board of Directors of the Fund for Mitigating the Effects of Drought and Natural Disasters of the Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform agreed to compensate the farmers of citrus, potatoes, tobacco, apples and grapevines whose crops were damaged by drought, frost and high temperatures in the governorates of Lattakia, Tartous, Homs and As-Suwayda.
In the details, the council agreed during a meeting today to compensate the affected citrus farmers in Lattakia governorate as a result of the high temperatures that occurred at the end of May last year in the regions of Qardaha and Lattakia Medina, Al-Haffa and Jableh, and compensate the farmers in Jableh for the damaged potato and tobacco crops as a result of the frost and cold that occurred in a month February of last year, in addition to compensation for citrus farmers in Tartous Governorate, whose crops were damaged as a result of the successive heat waves in the regions of Tartous, Safita and Baniyas, in mid-May.
The council also agreed to compensate apple and grapevine farmers in Homs governorate whose crops were damaged as a result of high temperatures in the regions of Tal Kalakh, the western, eastern and al-Makram regions during the months of May and July, and compensation for farmers in Damascus countryside whose crops were damaged as a result of the spring frost wave that affected apple, apricot, cherry, pear, and peach trees. In the areas of Zabadani, Qatna, Yabroud, Qatifah, Al-Haramoun and Rinkous during the months of March, April and May of last year.
Apple farmers in As-Suwayda governorate compensate those affected by the successive heat waves that took place in the month of May last year in the regions of Sweida, Salkhad and Shahba, as approved by the Council.
