Social activist Ruth Dayan was laid to rest today (Sunday) in the Nahalal cemetery, two days after she died at the age of 103. She was buried next to her sons, filmmaker and publicist Asi Dayan and sculptor Ehud Dayan.

Dayan was the first wife of Defense Minister and Chief of Staff Moshe Dayan. She headed the first Israeli fashion house "Maskit" and founded the charity Variety Israel. Throughout her life, she has won numerous awards and honors, including an honorary doctorate from Ben Gurion University ( 1994), the Yigal Alon Prize on behalf of the Palmach Generation Association (2002), an honorary doctorate from the University of Haifa (2010) and the Shlomo Bublik Prize on behalf of the Hebrew University (2017), for a person who made a significant contribution to the advancement and development of the State of Israel.

She was born in Haifa, the eldest daughter of Zvi and Rachel, a lawyer and a multi-verbal educator.

"I was born when there were Turks in the country at all," Dayan said in an interview she gave to "Israel Today" about a year ago.

"From the age of two I lived for eight years in England, in London, because of my parents' mission. They went to study there at university, to return to Israel and teach the Jewish community everything they learned, and they also taught Hebrew to people from the Jewish community. I loved England. Mother was not home "And I grew up with a caregiver. That's how we lived."

President Reuven Rivlin paid tribute to Dayan after learning of her death: "Ruth Dayan is gone. A woman who became an Israeli legend while still alive. Her life story is the epitome of the fulfillment of the Israeli and Zionist dream. "This one and its inhabitants wherever they are. A woman who knew what good taste was and was good at articulating it in cuts and fabrics, whose work is connected to this special time and place that we all love to the depths of her heart, like her.

Meretz's chairman, MK Nitzan Horowitz, also paid tribute to her.

"Great grief over the death of Ruth Dayan, at the age of 103. Meretz has been a founding member and an enthusiastic left-wing woman. Until the last minute she was as involved and committed, caring and knowledgeable as she has been all her life. I loved her very much. .
