A woman dead, her husband seriously injured.

The police in Eberfing are investigating a homicide against him.

And the whole village is wondering what happened.

Eberfing

- On the Monday after the fateful Friday evening, everyday life in Eberfing seems normal at first glance: the mountains on the horizon shine white, the streets are deserted.

Every now and then a car drives by.

The "Andrä bakery" on the main street is closed.

Mondays are closed.

The "Gasthof zur Post" has been closed since November because of the lockdown.

In a garden on the main street there is a wooden stork that indicates the birth of a boy.

There is no evidence that a woman was violently killed in this village on Friday evening.

Eberfing: Woman is cruelly killed - the quiet in the village is deceptive

Even in the street, which was bathed in blue light three days earlier because a large number of police and ambulance vehicles rushed to Eberfing, everything seems to be the same again.

The hole in the window next to the front door of the apartment building in which the drama took place was taped up with a piece of cardboard.

But the village peace was shaken by what happened on Friday evening in an apartment in the town with around 1,300 residents: "Eberfing is already in shock," Mayor Georg Leis told this newspaper on Sunday.

Cruel bloody deed in Eberfing: a village puzzles what happened

Irmgard Sageder, the chairwoman of the "Neighborhood Aid Eberfing", can confirm this: "People are concerned that something like this has happened in their ranks." but if so, then the violence on Friday is the predominant theme.

"I haven't spoken to so many since then, but that is of course occupying me," says Irmgard Sageder.

"In such a small village, something like that is just shocking for everyone."

Man allegedly kills wife in Eberfing: Does the Corona situation have a part?

Like many others who have heard of the momentous marital dispute, she asked herself whether the crime had anything to do with the current life situation.

Whether the few social contacts, the nocturnal curfew, the lack of opportunities to pursue hobbies, meet friends, contributed to the situation in the apartment in Eberfing escalating.

As previously reported, a 66-year-old husband allegedly killed his 69-year-old wife on Friday night after a marital argument and then seriously injured himself.

Then he made an emergency call.

According to a police spokeswoman, the woman's body should be autopsied yesterday afternoon.

The husband is now out of danger and has to stay in hospital for a few more days.

The investigation continues.
