Shortly after a year after the closing of the cinemas, there would be an agreement for the reopening of theaters and complexes in the City of Buenos Aires before the end of February.

Good news for one of the sectors hardest hit by the coronavirus pandemic.

After the approval of the health protocol a little less than a month ago, and several meetings between the entities, unions and companies of the cinematographic exhibition with the authorities of the Ministries of Health and Culture, there seems to be an agreement for the cinemas to partially resume their activity across the country before the end of the month.

It is worth remembering that in provinces such as Córdoba, Mendoza, Entre Ríos, Jujuy, Chubut, Santiago del Estero, La Pampa and Tierra del Fuego, some rooms have already been operating for several weeks with the corresponding health care.

Details remain to be defined for the reopening of cinemas in CABA.

The use of chinstrap will be mandatory

But the sector was expectant with the reopening in CABA and in the province of Buenos Aires, since close to 50% of the country's total is collected there, in normal situations.

And distributors release their strongest national and international premieres there.

Last week, executives from different cinema complex chains met with the City's Health Ministers, Fernán Quirós, and the Minister of Culture, Enrique Avogadro.

That same day there was another meeting to advance the reopening of rooms in the GBA.

Augusto Costa, Minister of Production, Science and Technological Innovation of the province of Buenos Aires and officials of Culture met with the legal representative of the Argentine Chamber of Multiscreen Exhibitors (CAEM) and executives of Cinemark-Hoyts, Cinemacenter, Cinema La Plata and -again- Atlas, Cinépolis, NAI and Multiplex.

The Showcase and Imax cinema complexes were adapted to once again receive viewers with their own protocol.

A key step for cinemas to resume their activity will be this week.

It is assured that Fernán Quirós will visit some complexes in the City, to control how the protocols are being implemented, which in addition to the distance between the spectators include hygiene and sanitation measures between function and function;

at the entrance and exit of the rooms, and in the sale of tickets and snacks.

The rearrangements made by the rooms and the complexes around the ventilation of the rooms, with the constant renewal of air, either natural or through a special filtering system, will also be vital.

After these inspections, it will be necessary to see if it is necessary to make any changes in the national sanitary protocol, before raising the request for exception to the Chief of Staff of the Nation so that it can definitively approve the return of the activity.

This week, Fernán Quirós will visit several cinema complexes in CABA to evaluate the application of health protocols.

It is worth remembering that, as in the theaters, the development of the activity would return with limited capacity.

In principle, the protocol stipulates that attendance may not exceed 50% of the capacity of each room, "or what each competent Jurisdictional Authority determines."

In addition, the use of a chinstrap will be mandatory (they can only be removed to eat food or drinks);

Spectators who attend as a group may not exceed six people;

and the distance between occupied seats must be at least 1.5 to 2 meters.
