Marc Fesneau: "On the climate, citizens have carried out very serious work"

INTERVIEW - Before the climate bill is presented to the Council of Ministers, the Minister for Citizen Participation draws an initial assessment of the Citizen's Convention at the origin of the text.


Marc Fesneau (MoDem) is Deputy Minister responsible for Relations with Parliament and Citizen Participation.

LE FIGARO.- The climate bill will be presented to the Council of Ministers on Wednesday.

It is based on the proposals of the Citizen's Climate Convention.

What is your first assessment of this new financial year?

Marc FESNEAU.

- The first success is these citizens who have taken up the climate issue and accumulated solid expertise to answer a question asked: how to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2030. They have carried out a very serious work which allows everyone to realize that we must redouble our efforts.

We are halfway there.

A decisive step remains, it is the handover between their proposals and the outcome of the text in Parliament.

This Convention was born to respond to the crisis of "yellow vests", hostile to a carbon tax.
