“Eurovision Song Contest” 2022: Jendrik Sigwart competes for Germany at the ESC

First report from February 6, 11:08 a.m .:

Hamburg - 20 music experts and 100 ESC fans have voted, now it is officially clear: Jendrik Sigwart will represent Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) on May 22, 2021 in Rotterdam.

The NDR announced on Saturday in Hamburg.

Sigwart won over the jury in a multi-stage selection process.

Initially, his name shouldn't mean much to many.

The 26-year-old still has no lack of stage experience, because the ukulele player from Hamburg is not only a singer-songwriter, but also a musical performer.

It was only in the summer that he had the idea to apply to the ESC preliminary decision because of the corona-related artistic break - with success.

In May he will be in the Netherlands.

He rightly convinced the ESC juries.

We are very happy that he is running for Germany, ”said Alexandra Wolfslast, the head of the German ESC delegation according to the announcement.

Meanwhile, a big secret remains which song Jendrik Sigwart will perform at the ESC.

The song will be announced on February 25th and will then be shown at 5:50 p.m. on NDR and at 7:56 p.m., right in front of the “Tagesschau” on Das Erste.

The song is already fixed.

Jendrik Sigwart is Germany's ESC candidate: he succeeds Ben Dolic

Jendrik is now taking over from Ben Dolic.

The former "Voice of Germany" candidate should actually have sung his song "Violent Thing" for Germany at ESC last year, but the show was canceled due to the corona pandemic *.

Dolic had already announced that he would not face the preliminary decision for the ESC again in 2021 *.

While there used to be big preliminary shows including voting on TV, the selection system changed as early as 2020.

Since then, the lead NDR had the German ESC contribution selected with a multi-level jury system and no longer through preliminary decisions on television and with audience participation.

Due to the cancellation last year, Sigwart is the first German candidate to take the ESC trip after such a selection process.

The ESC will take place this May under strict Corona measures with artists from 41 countries in Rotterdam - but very likely without an audience.
