The club life suffers, the readiness for action by no means: The voluntary fire brigade Söcking has submitted its annual reports for 2020.

The number of operations remained almost unchanged, including those that were often avoidable due to fire alarm systems.

Söcking

- The voluntary fire brigade Söcking has not held its annual general meeting this year, but submitted a written report.

However, it is short because of the corona pandemic: "Club activities such as our sheep's head tournament, the village championship with the stick shooters and our South Tyrolean evening could not take place," explains chairman Fritz Obermeier.

There are almost only events to report from the time before the pandemic or from the weeks without lockdown - the Gaudi tournament in mid-February, some birthdays and a wedding in summer.

"But we all hope for a time after Corona in which we can catch up with everything." The virus has comparatively little influence on the operational situation.

Practically every third day the 40 active members of the armed forces had to move out, as can be seen from the report by commandant Hans Obermeier.

There were 122 missions in 2020, nine more than in the previous year.

These included 21 fires (including extensive shed fires), three apartment openings, three animal rescues, seven traffic accidents (including serious ones like on the road over the Maisinger Gorge), four oil spills, eleven times cellars or streets were flooded, eight times it was about a gas leak and Storm damage 17 times.

The 45 alarms (+4) due to fire alarm systems are conspicuous, whereby the Söckinger often deploy with the Starnberg fire department, sometimes as far as downtown Starnberg and as far as the false alarm hotspot Seebad.

The bulk of the BMA alerts are in Starnberg: "We don't have that many," says Commander Obermeier.

The avoidable ones are annoying, as in the seaside resort, but it is not uncommon for the system to be unsuccessful because the smoke alarms mistake dust and water vapor for smoke.

And sometimes, like recently at the Five Lakes School, it actually smokes.

“The systems are not free,” emphasizes Obermeier.

In terms of personnel, the Söckinger Wehr is well positioned, and the difficulties caused by the corona pandemic have so far not had a negative effect on motivation, even if there were only a few exercises in small groups and practically no training for the next generation.

“We're getting by like this, but things can't go on like this forever,” says the commander.

He hopes that training should be possible from summer onwards.

The armed forces had planned honors and will do so when the opportunity arises.

Vanessa Obermeier and Patrick Roscher have been active for ten years, Hans Obermeier and Peter Rami for 40 years.

Daniel Pascher receives the Cross of Merit for 25 years.

Josef Fischer and Andreas Moser will then be honored for 50 years of loyalty to the association among the passive members, of whom there are currently 16.

Julian Haunschild and Dorothee Hauptmann are officially promoted to fire fighters, Vincent Arevalo and Kilian Kellner are welcomed as new young people and Ewelina Czerniawska as new active.

Even if the club's life is idle due to a pandemic, the fire brigade can rely on the supporters.

"Special thanks also go to our sponsors for their generous support," emphasizes Fritz Obermeier in his report, which was sent to all members.
